  1. I think that the play was put on very well for the age of the actors. I admire the way they can get up there and deal with there nerves. I couldn't really hear the Von Tussles when they sung and I was pretty close to the stage. Another thing I wish ws different was the ending. I wish that the Von Tussles were punished.

  2. I loved how they displayed Penny's mother. The part were she ran screaming after them with a broom, was hilarous and funny.

  3. The music was very catchy I had "Good Morning Baltiore" stuck in my head all day. I was horrible.

  4. The play was pretty good. The person who played Tracy sounded like the Tracy in the movie. I didn't really like the solitary confinement scene.

  5. I think that they did a great job doing the play. Penny's voice got very annoying after a while. There were some mistakes, but they still did very good. I didn't like the scene where they were in jail because it didn't make sense to me. I think that the movie was better than the play.

  6. i thought it was a great performace because it was fuuny and easy to follow. i didn't like it because in some parts of the performance it was hard to hear what the characters were saying.

  7. I thought hairspray was pretty good, and there was only a few minor things I would have changed.I thought the segragation theme was brought out a lot and thought they organized it very well. The actors portrayed their character very well, and it was very interesting.

  8. I thought that the play was ok but i would have changed parts of it and some of the characters!

  9. I really liked this production because they did a very good job with the acting and singing. They also were very good with the choreography.

  10. I thought the production was great exept you should buy some more fuzzy slippers and make sure they have more grip, also the composer in the pit her light on the stand kept shining in my eye. Besides that I thought the play was amazing and tought me a lesson about integration.

  14. i thought that it was really good because i thought that the message of black and white people being together was more shown, but i didnt like pennie's character because i though she was playing too dumb and i thought that her being so naiive might have gone against the theme of the play. Her being so naiive and then dating seaweed at the end kind off showed me that maybe she didnt understand what was going on and she was too dumb to really understand what was going between the black and white so maybe she wasnt against segregation.

  15. I really liked tthe play better than the movie. the music is too catchy. I have like three songs stuck in my head because of mr.nasedo. It was funny. the jokes kinda inapporate. but funny. Penny and Wilbur were funny. I think the theme was race isnt everything. it shounld matter want u look like. I loved the play and if i could see it again.

  16. I loved their version of "Hairspray". It was really interesting to see the movie and then see the play the next day, that made it easy to compare. However I didn't like how Lil' Inez didn't win and Tracy did, the "Cooties" song was a little awkward, and the jail seen took too long in my opinion. But, overall I thought it was really great and got the point across really well!

  17. I thought that the movie was a lot better than the play. The play was still good and entertaining and it was there first time actually doing Hairspray and they didnt know everything and they will get better and betteer. I still have "welcome to the sixty's" in my head and it's getting really anoying.

  18. I loved the actor portraying penny's mom.It was incredible over all and I like how the guy playing seaweed had forgot who he was sometimes. Some scenes that weren't in the movie where good and some were bad.

    ReplyDelete
  19. i think the movie and the musical are almost the same as i like them. one thing i like in the musical that wasnt in the movie was the part where penny's mom acepted that she was dating seaweed and was happy for her. one thing i didnt like about the musical was the song cooties, i just think that song doesnt make any sense.

  20. I think that the play was better in some ways, like how Penny's mother had a bigger partand how they had more songs. The thing i really disliked is that link and little Inez had smaller parts in the play.

  21. i thought this play was very well planned out it looked like these kids have been trying working as hard as they can on sets dancing and there performance. The one thing i didn't like about it was that little inez didn't win miss teenage hairspray. I liked the play and the movie both.

  22. To be completely honest, I love hairspray more than Glee:). All of the songs are in my head. If you go on my phone, i have Hairspray ringtones. Anyways, I really enjoyed the acting of the characters. The only character i would change was penny, be cause i liked amanda bynes better. I also liked the two new songs. GOOD MORNING BALITOMRE!!!!

  23. Hi i am Mack and i really liked the Play much more than the film. but i don't really like musicals in general, so thay could have lost the music. all of the actors seemed really nice and funny, i loved them. overal i really liked the preformence.

  24. I really enjoyed the play, i think the acting was great, as well as the singing and dancing. I also think that traceys mom did a FANTASTIC job of getting back in after he/she fell off the platform. I think that the play was better than the movie because Penny, Penny's mom, and Tracey's dad had bigger parts, but i didnt like how Link had a smaller part.

  25. i felt the underlined message could have been conveyed more throughout the story. penny was a bit too dorky for me. it got annoying after a while. edna's fall made my blood curl. i hope he was alright. :( i wish little inez would have won miss teenage hairspray. that would heve showed the groundbreaking underlined message better. other than that i liked it. ive been singing good morning baltimore and you cant stop the beat all flipping day!!!!! lol

  26. I thought that it was produced well. It wasn't as good as the movie in my point of view, but it was good. The jail part was a bit too slow for me, and it was too predictable, but it was well-played all in all. I hope that no one falls into the pit :O

  27. I thought Hairspray was great! I really liked how when the Corny Collins show was on they used another stage so we could see Penny and Tracy watching it. I liked the jailhouse scene was good I just thought Amber and her mother shouln't of been there. I really liked how at the end instead of Tracy coming out from the Hairspray can she came from out of the audience.

  33. I think it is hard to compare a play and a movie because there are certain things that you can do in a movie, but not a play, and vice versa. Overall I was very impressed with both. The actors in the play were really good -I couldn't believe that they were only a few years older than me! One thing I would change in the play was I thought that Link fell in love with Tracy a little too quickly. I've had a bunch of the songs from the play stuck in my head constantly since yesterday...It's getting really annoying :-)

  34. Hairspray was the best high school production I have seen in a long time. It was very well directed and the script was strong. I didn't like the solitary confinement scene because of the confusion I had with where Tracy was. I only wish that the orchestra pit was not there as it caused much concern over the actors safety. The play was much better run and acted than the professanls in the movie. What made it great was the small things like the voices and tones with comments that forced you to laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  35. i didn't really like the solitary confinment scene or the new and totally NOT improved pennie. The play was OK. i didn't think all the curse words were nessecary and i all most had a heartattack when big momma fell (Edna Turnblad. i think the characteers did a good job acting and i really liked the songs wihich all got stuck in my head ~<:0~-|

  38. I really liked the play. I think i liked it more then the movie. I can't get the songs out of my head. I came home singing Mama I'm a Big Girl Now, to my mom. In the play I wish that Velma went to Wilbert's shop.

  42. Even though many parts of the play were diffrent i thought it was all wonderful. Expecily the crew moving the scenery around in the middle of acts because they did it so well and swiftly. Although I personaly thought that the movie ended better since Lil' Inez won having a bigger impack on society

  43. I thought it was awesome, but I liked the movie better. I liked the special affects that they have in the movie, but I know that they can't do that in a play. I love the part when Penny's mom comes running out, screaming with a broom!

Along with having annoyingly catchy yet awesome music, the show had a clear message that judging people by their appearance is wrong. The set pieces and costumes were amazingly well done, and I loved it!

  46. I thought that the play was produced well and they scenory was awsome and they picked the good characters to play theat roll they did a great job. I cant believe that the hairspay bottle didnt fall off of the stage cause it was really close to falling of. If I was in the play i would have been very scared of off into the orchastra. SCARRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So good job to all of the cast members

  47. I liked the movie better because of special effects and how they could cut parts out and redo parts if they messed up, but the play was really good and funny for a 'play level.' Some parts were too predictable like Tracy winning Miss Teenage Hairspray, so it was better when Inez won in the movie because it shows integration. Plus, some additions that were not in the film made it kind of bad, like the song Cooties which made no sense at all, or how Link and Inez had smaller parts than in the film.

  52. I loved the play. I really couldn't hear Velma Von Tussle, but what I did hear was really good. I had almost all of the songs stuck in my head all day. Although I disagree with Oleysa, I don't think Penny was being naive and dumb I think the message of Penny's charactor is that love can triumph over anything, including segregation. Although I like it in the movie that little Inez won Miss Tennage hairspray, because I thought it made more of a statement then the everr so slightly predictable ending of Tracy winning Miss Teenage Hairspray. I also really loved the girl who played Tracy because she sounded really loud, and you could hear the lyrics to the song clearly.

  53. I thought the movie was better. But for a play, it was pretty good. I thought it would of been a better idea to have Little Inez have a bigger part and have her win the "Miss Hairspray 1962 Pagent." I had the song "Without Love" stuck in my head. Luckily it was my favorite song. I just wished that Link would of actually sang "Without Love" in Tracy's bedroom and when he finished the song he would of gone to save Tracy from jail. I thought it was kind of funny when Edna fell. I was wondering where Edna's slipper went. It looked like it fell into the pit, but i'm not sure. My favorite character was Penny. I liked it when everyone was frozen and Penny was like "why is everyone frozen," at least it looked like she was thinking that. I was suprised how the girl that played Velma sang just like the Velma in the movie. I also liked when Penny's mom found Penny and Seaweed and she started chasing them with the broom.

  55. I absoultely, positively, LOVED the play. Its story line was great but I thought that Little Ingrid should have won Miss Teenage Hairspray; it sends a bigger message. Also, I liked that Tracy came in through the theater door inastead of being in the big hairspray bottle. And Mrs. Cullinan's son is funny! :)

All in all I thought the play was very well thought out and very well put together!!!

  60. Hello I ♥ the performance. The only thing I would change was I couldnt hear some singing! We should make a "Good morning Phoenix!" song. I had the song I can hear the bells in my head it was awesome!!! Want to defintely watch "Hairspray" again it was an awesome experience.

  62. I think the movies' plotline was slightly better constructed than that of the play's. I found it somewhat strange that Velma Von Russle didn't admit to changing the votes for the Pagent.

  63. I think that the play was funnier when Penny was grounded in her room by her mother. In the movie she is grounded just for keeping Tracey in the bomb shelter. But in the play she is grounded for going to jail without her mothers perfmision.

  64. I think the play was put on well, but I liked the movie better. I thought it was so creative how they would freeeze people in scenes and have other characters walk around them and poke/move them. I really like the people they picked to play the characters, and I think they fit the parts well. I was disapointed that Tracy won Miss. Hairspray instead of Little Inez. But otherwise, I really liked the play.

  65. I really liked the play and how they added comedy into a serious situation. I also thought that the actors did a really good job. During the entire play Katie was telling me that I would be Penny, not playing her as a part but my personality was like hers. I would be the one person poking people to see if they were dead.

  66. I didn't accually see the play, but from what I've heard people seemed to really enjoy it. One thing that came up a lot was how there were many girls playing guys parts (besides Edna, of corse!) I think that if a girl is really good at playing a guys part she should be able to do it. I love the famouse saying "Girls can do anything guys can, but better!"

  67. I thought the play was very good for a (mainly) high school cast. I thought that the hair could have been a bit more convincing, but I know that it was a high school production, and most of the time high school productions don't have amazing budgets like movies. Also, I thought that Edna got out of character a bit sometimes, but he was pretty good for being a dude and all. I didn't like that Tracy said that the show was integrated, wheras Corny said that in the movie. It seemed like when Tracy said it it didn't mean it as much, because she doesn't have the authority to say that as much as Corny does. It's the Corny Collins show. But for a high school cast, they did have amazing voices, and were very believable for the most part.

  68. I loved this play and how they added songs and the effect stuck to my brain. (My dad now knows the songs as well as I do). I loved "Mama I'm a big girl now" and I did wonder whether or not Edna shaved his legs for the play... but I think he did. ;) I really wish Amanda Bynes played the part of Penny in the play like she did in the movie (Even though that's not possible) because I think the Penny in the play acted too ... overly strange. (Haha) I loved the play and there's only one more thing to say...
    WELCOME TO THE SIXTIES!!!
ps. i can totally relate to Penny's mom because I run off screaming with brooms 24/7

  70. I thought the play was great! there were some things added in it and some parts taken out. My favorite character was Penny. she was funny and exactly like the Penny in the movie. I think it was a good idea to watch the movie first then watch the play so we could compare them. All the charaters looked and sounded alike in the movie and the play. All the voices sounded great too! It must have been a lot of practice to stand still for a while in the play, or keep yourself from laughing. Penny's mom reminded me of Becca when she ran out screaming with the broom :)

  74. I loved it!!!! Again, I'm probably biased, but I love theatre and this was one of the BEST performances I have been to that I can remember. I thought it was really cool how they acted like real people, not stiff, like an imposter. It was really awesome how they sang really clearly and I could hear everyone, (Except Velma, she needs a mic) and how they messed up but didn't really act like it was a mistake, like Edna's fall. I think it was better when Little Inez won the Miss Hairspray thing. The set pieces and costumes were really well done and I could tell exactly what was happening when it was happening, and the characters were really well portrayed. I think that Corney was my favorite Character in the movie, but that Motormouth Maybelle was my favorite in the musical. I walked around with the songs stuck in my head, singing them on the bus, while in the hallway, even during dinner. My family thinks I'm crazy, which I may be. But this was totally awesome to get to go to a play and ask questions and have them answered by all of the cast. It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance I think, and I really appreciate it. It was AMAZING! I woke up this morning singing, "good morning Columbus!" and left for phoenix singing, "You can't stop the beat." I love Hairspray!!!!!!

  75. I liked the movie more than the plays because in the movie the characters didn't have to stand still for multiple minutes and if you fall you can always do the scene over again. But I did enjoy the play.

  78. I've never liked watching plays adapted from movies, or plays that where adapted into movies, if I've watched the movie because there are just some things that make the whole thing better that plays simply cannot do. Howevr, Hairspray really changed my mind. Although it is still not as good as the movie, it was still a phenomonal preformance.

  79. The play was AMAZING. Aside from the incedent with the stairs, nothing went wrong. In fact, at first I thought it was part of the plot. I had most of the songs stuck in my head forever, even as I write this. The acting was great. You could literally feel their emotions emminating from the characters. Also, it suprised me that they could stay frozen for that long.
